The Beginning

The Beginning


The war in Vietnam did not start with the Americans. France was originally apart of this war over northern and southern Vietnam. It began in 1954, When the French were supporting southern Vietnam. Many battles lead to the french being kicked out of Vietnam and the war. This left the south vulnerable since the north was supported by the Soviets. Finally on  December 11, 1961, the United States finally stepped it to help out the south. The U.S. aircraft carrier "Core," arrived in Saigon with 65 helicopters and 4000 air and ground crewmen. They were first there on strict defensive orders to just support the south. Later however, the U.S. had to go offensive. This was due to the many attacks from the north on U.S. military bases
